Executive summary

The challenge:

Colmena66 published an annual 100+ page impact report intended to inform partners, and public policy stakeholders. Despite the effort invested, engagement was low and the information rarely influenced decision making. I identified an opportunity to transform static reporting into an accessible, audience-driven data ecosystem that prioritized usability, transparency, and real-world impact.

The solution:

I proposed and executed a dual-layered digital experience. I built a dedicated website to serve as a curated analysis platform and integrated a high-utility Power BI dashboard as the central “Source of Truth.” This system transformed a static document into an interactive hub where data is humanized through real-time entrepreneur stories.

Breaking the Information Bottleneck

Sitting at the center of Puerto Rico’s entrepreneurial network, Colmena66’s mission is to connect resources. However, the annual data reporting was a bottleneck. My diagnosis focused on the usability gap between raw data and ecosystem action.

Friction points:

  • Complexity Management: The sheer volume of data made it nearly impossible for a non-expert to extract specific insights without high cognitive load.
  • Asset Redundancy: We were duplicating efforts—creating a full report, then a summary, then a PowerPoint—without a central "source of truth."
  • Delivery Failure: The static nature of the report meant that by the time a stakeholder received it, the "path to action" was obscured by 100 pages of text.
  • Lack of Context: Data without a narrative feels cold. I recognized that stakeholders needed to see the real entrepreneurs behind the metrics to understand the true impact.

Information as a Living Asset

  • Multilayered Accessibility: We identified that different audiences—from high-level policymakers to local entrepreneurs—require different levels of data granularity. The system needed to serve them all simultaneously.
  • The "PDF Barrier": We recognized that static PDFs inherently limit exploration and discourage deep engagement. To solve this, we moved toward a more accessible, web-based interaction.
  • Human-Centered Ecosystems: I integrated Entrepreneur Stories throughout the interface. These aren't just "success stories"; they are real-world accounts of how entrepreneurs navigate the ecosystem, providing a qualitative layer to the quantitative data.
  • Expanding Sustainability: I framed this project through a Holistic Sustainability lens. Sustainability isn't only environmental; it includes reducing internal resource waste and improving the long-term accessibility of knowledge within the ecosystem.

The Solution: The Interactive Impact System

The final product replaced a static link with a curated, high-utility environment.

Filterable & Searchable Logic:

Instead of reading a 100-page report, users can now use the Power BI dashboard to filter datasets and explore specific indicators relevant to their niche.

Intent-Based Architecture:

By organizing data around user goals—such as funding access and regional growth—I ensured stakeholders spend less time searching and more time extracting strategic insights.

Modular Data Assets:

By making the data modular, we transformed an obscure long-form document into a searchable, interactive experience that drives immediate utility.

Narrative Analysis:

After establishing the dashboard as the primary source of truth, I designed a web-based narrative layer that provides curated analysis and context for the data presented.

The outcome

Operational Optimization:

We eliminated hundreds of hours of manual formatting by creating a scalable, repeatable dashboard framework.

Evidence-Based Storytelling:

The dashboard is now used in high-level meetings to prove impact, using both hard data and human stories to drive ecosystem building.

Institutional Standardization:

This system established a new standard for Colmena66’s annual reporting. It evolved the internal workflow from a fragmented, manual cycle to an agile, digital-first strategy.
